The County Auditor’s Office is known as the “Hub of County Government”. It is an elected position with a term of 4 years. The Auditor has many responsibilities and works closely with all the County Departments. The County Auditor is Clerk to the Board of Supervisors. In this capacity, the Auditor prepares agendas and minutes of their proceedings and maintains all official records and actions of the Board and publishes the required legal notices. As County Financial Officer, the Auditor prepares and submits the budget to the Board of Supervisors for approval. The Auditor maintains accounting records on all appropriations for the county’s various departments and prepares various financial reports for the Iowa Department of Management. The Auditor is responsible for the payroll, health insurance records and any employment benefits. The Auditor’s Office audits and prepares various departmental accounts payable claims and processes the payments. Maintaining real estate ownership and property tax records, preparing valuation reports for the various taxing entities of the county. Certifying budgets and tax levies submitted by the County, schools districts, township officials, cities, E911, Emergency Mgt., Assessor and Ag Extension. Maintains tax increment financing files and State reports. Prepares property tax statements for the county. The Auditor is the Commissioner of Elections and administers all elections, federal, state and local, conducted in Ida County. The Commissioner is responsible for voter registration, accepting nomination papers, ballot printing and testing of voting equipment, precinct election official training, organizing polling locations and absentee ballot processing. Accepts and retains manure management plans and livestock confinement construction permits. Prepares and maintains licenses and permits for fireworks, cigarettes, beer and liquor for entities outside of city limts. The Ida County Auditor’s Office also accepts Passport Applications.
